The Origin of “Tuhavi”
Tuhavi is the name of an important Kachina in the Hopi Indian history. Tuhavi or the Paralyzed Kachina represents the tale of a man who is paralyzed and a man who is blind. Together they completed each other’s needs.
The Tuhavi is the paralyzed man, while normally the blind man is the Mud Head (Koyemsi). The Mud Head becomes the paralyzed Kachina’s legs, and the paralyzed Kachina becomes the Mud Head’s eyes. Together, they are able to hunt and live.
This is one of the most sought after and desirable types of Mud head.
